ToffeeTribe Workday Event

As told by Bosibori Mainye

“A serious workday breakfast which is not to be confused with a party.”
The invite read.

Accompanying the invite was a ticket to the event happening on Thursday, at 8.30 am at Chez Sonia.

If you’re not familiar with ToffeeTribe, allow me to bring you up to speed for a second.
They are a group of two amazing women who convert restaurants into co-working spaces. So far, they have 4 locations in Nairobi: Chez Sonia, Lava Latte, Karel T Lounge, and Chekafe.

Basically, they provide professionals with spaces where they can go to work and get productive, away from the distractions that come with working from home.
Working from home can get really boring. I’m sure everyone can relate to this now, what with the unfortunate pandemic sweeping over the world. We were all forced to work from home unless it was absolutely necessary to go to the office. After spending the day in and day out at home, you quickly come to realize how it affects your mood and productivity.

That’s why ToffeeTribe decided to step in and provide affordable co-working spaces for when you need that crucial break away from home. All you have to do is download the app, check-in at any of their locations, sit down at the reserved seating area, connect your laptop to the super-fast wifi, and get down to work. Even better, all members get 10 to 20% menu discounts. And the icing on the cake? Bottomless tea or coffee.
I honestly don’t think it gets any better than that!

Anyway, now that we’re all caught up on what ToffeeTribe is, let’s pick up where we left off.
A serious workday breakfast which is not to be confused with a party? I was intrigued!
Thursday rolls by and it’s a chilly morning. It’s so cold, I decide to stay snuggled in my warm bed for thirty more minutes. The event is supposed to start at 8.30 am but I console myself with the old African timer excuse. 8.30 roughly translates to 10 am in African time. So you can imagine my shock and surprise when I finally roll in at 9.30 and it’s a full house.

People had shown up in full force, as early as 8 am, ready to work. As I awkwardly saunter in, looking for a place to sit, I notice the TofeeTribe founders. It takes a second for them to recognize me because half my face is covered by a mask. After a few pleasantries, I find a place to sit, prop up my laptop, and join the other revelers in working.
